What Big Brother Nigeria contestant was the only one to win with over 60% of the final vote?

Laycon

In 2020, Olamilekan “Laycon” Agbeleshe made history on Big Brother Naija as the first contestant to win the show with 60% of the final public vote. Competing in the BBNaija Season 5: Lockdown Edition, Laycon quickly became a fan favorite thanks to his calm demeanor, lyrical talent, and emotional transparency. His fan base, called the Icons, grew rapidly both online and offline, mobilizing across Nigeria and the diaspora to keep him in the house and ultimately push him to victory.

In the final week, Laycon earned 60.00% of all votes cast, far surpassing runner-up Dorathy who received 21.85%, and third-place Nengi who got 15.03%. Other finalists Neo and Vee garnered 1.94% and 1.18% respectively. The previous week, during the semi-final round, Laycon also led with 50.11%, beating out Dorathy (26.68%), Ozo (19.11%), and Trikytee (4.10%). These numbers solidified his status as one of the most dominant winners in BBNaija history.

Laycon’s massive win earned him a prize worth over ₦85 million, including cash, a car, and endorsement opportunities. Beyond the numbers, his victory was seen as a cultural moment: a soft-spoken, intellectual rapper who defied stereotypes and connected with everyday Nigerians. His win elevated his music career and turned him into a household name, showing how powerful public sentiment and grassroots support can be in Nigerian reality TV.
